When things don’t make sense...
“Don’t worry about anything, instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done” Philippians 4:6 NLT.
“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance” Romans 5:3 NLT.
Things just don't make sense right now; it's a terrible time for many. With so much death, both natural and man-made, it's difficult not to be worried. Of course, as human, it's difficult to comprehend why awful things happen, because this world, is all we know. I remember asking, why do awful things happen, when God loves the world so much? Why can't He intervene? As human, when things don’t make sense, we naturally want to blame someone. When there is no one to blame, we blame God, and some unfortunately, reject Him in the process.
And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Mark 15:34 ESV.
Nobody will ever understand you and I better than Jesus Christ. Our Lord and Saviour, who is both fully God and fully man, felt abandoned on the cross. From a human perspective, Jesus understands what it's like to feel as if, God has abandoned you. We often feel alone, and some of us seek a temporary ‘way out’ to cope. Jesus, on the other hand, didn’t seek for an ‘easy way out’, He remained faithful to God. When we face difficulties in life, we must turn to our Saviour in prayer and the Bible, and trust in God's plan for us.
“God is not a mortal like me, so I cannot argue with Him or take Him to trial” Job 9:32 NLT.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT.
No one, can argue with God. Why? He is God, and we are not. That is something we must accept. It's a difficult pill to swallow, especially at this time. Rather than blame Him, we must remain faithful to God, through Christ Jesus our Lord. It is hard, but with Jesus we can persevere. It may sound odd to rejoice in the midst of difficult situations but, the Word of God urges us to do so! It's strange to say, but it's vital to lean on Him, especially in these trying and uncertain times! The present time serves as a reminder that life on earth is temporary. Thank God for Jesus Christ! Our trials, although difficult, are only temporary because of our Lord and Saviour Jesus!
“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold- though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honour on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world” 1 Peter 1:7 NLT.
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it isn’t looking for Him and doesn’t recognise Him. But you know Him, because He lives with you now and later will be in you. No, I will not abandon you as orphans-I will come to you.” John 14:16-18 NLT.
When things don’t make sense, we should remember that, we are not alone. We are not meant to do it alone. The world does not say it enough, thank God for Jesus Christ! When we entirely surrender ourselves and our trials to God through Christ our Lord, we graciously receive the Holy Spirit. A gift graciously given to us by God through Christ Jesus! The presence of the Holy Spirit is like no other! You and I, are no longer in control; instead, the Holy Spirit leads us through Jesus Christ. Rejoicing in God in the midst of adversities is only possible when guided by the Holy Spirit, because it will never make sense from a human perspective. I'll say it again, thank God, for Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour!
“And we have received God's Spirit (not the world's spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Holy Spirit, using the Spirit's words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren't spiritual can't receive these truths from God's Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can't understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Holy Spirit means.” 1 Corinthians 2:12-14 NLT.
“Whatever happens, my dear brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord. I never get tired of telling you these things, and I do it to safeguard your faith.” Philippians 3:1 NLT.
So, when things don't make sense…rejoice in the Lord! Our God, is good! As Christians, we must share with the world that God is good in both good and bad times! So, when we are going through a difficult situation, remember that God is with us through Christ Jesus! Let us entrust our difficulties to Jesus, as He promises to give rest to our souls. Thank God for Jesus Christ, our Lord! As Christians, we should never tire of saying it, and neither should the world!
“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT.
“So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while” 1 Peter 1:6 NLT.
